Caladiums are grown for their showy leaves. In summer they produce clumps of long-stalked, heart-shaped leaves.
Caladiums are extremely easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil. This shade-loving but sun tolerant plants thrive in heat and humidity.
Soil temperature needs to be 70 degrees F. or higher when planting. Plant in containers which can then be easily lifted in northern climates where they may not survive the winter if left unprotected.
Tropical plants are adapted to humid conditions, if they are looked after correctly and misted often they can act as natural humidifiers helping with breathing problems, and skin sensitivity. It’s well known that colours can affect emotions and affect reactions. The pink tones in the Strawberry Star can inspire creativity, and white is the colour of new beginnings!
Grow caladiums in spring and summer. These South American beauties love the warmth and long daylight hours. They're warm-natured and will begin to grow as soon as you plant them -- no special treatment required.
Plant the tubers in 4-6 inch (10-15 cm) pots, covering with just 1 inch (2.5 cm) of potting mix. Give them a good drink of water, and keep them in a warm spot (about 75°F/24°C) with indirect light. You can expect those colorful leaves to unfurl in 6-8 weeks.
Like other tropical plants, it will appreciate regular watering and moist (not wet) soil.
Keep it in an area with bright indirect sunlight
Strawberry Stars will appreciate a rich, well-draining potting mix.
During the warmer months, feed it with a liquid fertilizer.
If you keep the plant outdoors, bring it back inside in the winter and keep it in a well-heated room.
Strawberry Stars don’t grow leaves in the winter as they become dormant. Keep the tubers in dry soil in a dark space and replant them again next year.
